Can confirm working at a kart track this happens more often than you’d think
14 days ago
Frequently visit a kart track. Absolutely HATE racing with large groups like this. Yes I know, you guys are excited. You think you're fast. But you still have to slow down for the turn. So many times I've almost been t-boned at the turn because someone thinks staying close inside at full speed is faster.
had a work outing race.
Got fucking tboned by my god damn manager like this in the finals race. He thought it made him good, his bitch ass still took shitty lines the rest of the race and I passed him on the last lap.
THATS WHY YOU GOT FIRED BRIAN, YA BITCH.
We had a work outing "team building" event.
We had people that wouldn't talk to each other for week's after that race.
Seems like if you want to do team building, there’s got to be better activities than a fiercely competitive every-man-for-himself style race lol

Paintball! Shoot em instead.

omg, i just got a little chub from the thought of absolutely lighting up my old boss.
"You were supposed to stop after landing the first shot!!"
"Uh sorry im new at paintball i think the trigger got stuck"
"I'm a really big fan of follow-through, boss."
"You can just get your ammo refilled, you didn't need to snap Jim's neck to save paintballs"
We did a ski outing once with coworkers. One guy broke his leg and another managed to cut his wrist with his ski somehow and was bleeding into his glove. We didn’t do another ski outing after that.
I tried really hard to make that our activity at one of our sales meetings.
I'd love nothing more than to shoot some of my co-workers in the throat.
I do love watching them fuck themselves up. Im by no means an amazing driver, but I know the line. They pass me once in a dumb dangerous movw and think they're the best. Ok dude, fastest lap wins anyway.
Wait... I’m not getting points for bumping people?
Why does the guy with the flag always clap and holler at me if I’m not raising the ranks?
Wait, this isn't MarioKart64? Eat my green shell!
"Aren't these sparks supposed to be blue?"
"Aren't these sparks supposed to be blue?"
So I shouldn't be throwing bananas behind me at the local track?
Do you want ants? Because that’s how you get ants
I also had a work outing race, and I got T-boned by one of the guys on another team who decided that going full-throttle into the hairpin on the inside of the track would work somehow. He hit my kart so hard I saw stars, it disabled his kart... my kart was okay to drive once I got my bearings. I ended up finishing #2 overall for our group, the guy who beat me was an experienced amateur racer and I outweighed him by 50+lbs... I couldn't touch his times.
Sorry for T-boning you LS-CRX, i got caught up in the moment.
Wait... account over 4 years old and this is the first comment.
Yeah...this should be the top story on reddit right now.
Never mind that the LS-CRX apparently shoved an LS into a CRX.....
Stop the presses.
It’s really him; he’s been waiting 4 years for this moment.
Username checks out
It's funny to go to these events and see people get serious about "winning" while the majority of their coworkers are just goofing around.
There was a handful of us that were having fun trying to set the fastest lap time, and the rest were just doing laps and having fun being in a kart. The guy who hit me wasn't one of the people trying to set a fast lap... he was just an idiot.
I was at a training class in Orlando a few years ago. The company hosting it took us all to an outdoor kart track. It had rained that afternoon and the track was still wet. I was surprised the track let us go out. Most of the people drove a couple of laps and quit. They were getting wet and the karts were hard to drive on a wet track. A few other guys and I had the track to ourselves and I had a blast doing lap after lap.
My work did this once. I won. Trophy is still on display at my desk ~15 years later.
Seemed like driver weight and just being willing to abuse your body were the big deciders. Your neck and arms take a beating.
The trick is not to lean your body into the corners.
You still need to keep your head from flopping over while wearing a helmet that makes it heavier than normal. Makes me really appreciate the neck training that F1 drivers do because of the forces they see in corners.

Outside of karting weight not so much, but how much abuse you're willing to take is what decides whether you can race in the big leagues
This the tea I live for
Had something like this happen to me once. I don’t do karts a lot, but I have a reasonably OK understanding of lines and got respectable times. Or, at least, I would have if one of our managers actually let people pass and wasn’t all over the place. It was infuriating.
I definitely shouldn’t have, but I have him a slight bump at just the right point in the turn to cause him to have to get out of the way. It wasn’t even truly intentional, he just hit the brakes at an apparently random time, which caused me to hit the corner of his kart. I just didn’t entirely not expect him to do that.
You shouldn’t feel too bad. Narrow tracks, you often need to go for the gaps when they appear, even if they’re a little bit too small. You’ll never be able to pass otherwise.
IF IT WORKS IN BURNOUT PARADISE, IT WORKS IN REAL LIFE
Got t-boned once at full speed by wife's cousin that thought we were playing mario kart. Tore my rotator cuff.
Damn dude. That sucks. People forget how dangerous karting can actually be. Just because there are bumpers doesn't mean you can take a huge hit.
Typical your wife's cousin
I’m sorry Scott :-(
I once went to a karting track with family. There were a couple of older men who were obviously way more experienced. They brought their own helmets even I think. I was just doing some laps. Granted, I was pretty slow, bc I couldn't press the pedal all the way in for some reason, but those guys were actively using me to block the other. One guy grabbed my kart by the side when I stood still and pushed me towards the middle of the track, causing me to collide with the other. I quit after that lap
once I went to a place that had a kart track and I was driving and this mom and her elementary age son were in another one and she was purposely running into me non stop and laughing and wouldn't leave me alone. it was super annoying and I don't think I've been on one since. I told my dad about it and he said he is surprised no one who worked there tried to stop her.
One of those tandem karts? Probably fairly slow, no helmets? Those places the employees dont give a single fuck. Find a proper place that has the 40+ mph karts. More strict on bumping and don't get placed with kids. Lots more fun.
Yup. I worked at a track for a short stint after I left nursing college. Twice it was so bad we had to call the paramedics. It's scary the amount of times people had the safety briefing go in the one ear and out the other. On a daily basis races were stopped so that reckless idiots could be removed from the track for not following safety rules.
You tell them that if you deliberately crash we will take you off track and then that exact thing happens and they act surprised
Not to mention then being entitled and demanding a refund.
For some reason karting just attracts the worst customers
Which is why I prefer track days. Even if it's so rare I go actual tracking, and don't have a proper track car, I still prefer sharing the tarmac with people who paid for their own car and driven hours from their own. The closest car I had was when I had the outside line and a faster car took the inside line but had a bad weight transfer and spun. No contact at all.
Guess the 1st dude tried drifting
Can confirm, on my first race I was guilty of this. I got some tutoring from my brother in law who is a pro kart racer and saw my shenanigans; got the hang of it for the rest of the races, then it became freakin fun.
Last time I went go karting I was doing doing so good compared to the rest of the group, which consisted of a bunch of noobs like myself. In the next round, 3 new people joined in. They brought their own helmets. I learned in the following round how fast these go karts can go.
It reminded me of the first time I played Gran Turismo online where I got crushed by people who are really good in the game.
I was a mechanic at K1 Speed, can confirm. $12/hr fixing broken and bent suspension parts and axles just for this to happen to it 5min later, all while customers ask you "which one is fastest"?
You'll probably find this funny. Once had a customer go full speed, straight on at a hairpin. Bent the steering column, punctured a front tyre and put the front wheels out of line. Was quite fun watching our mechanic try and drive it back to the pits
You forgot the hilarious part where the customer asks for a refund.
Oh yeah, that really really hilarious moment
I worked at a kart track for around 9 months and never saw anything this bad lol, but my hatred of dumb fucking kids remains.
Bro I feel you man, them kids be really fucking stupid
Yeah I’ve seen people smack barriers so hard they break the karts and/or the barriers. I wish I could explain how people decide not to turn or brake when flying towards a wall at 30mph
14 days ago*
Call me crazy but I find watching people crash very funny, and hiding laughter from customers was difficult sometimes
They believe they're in bumper cars. The difference between those and go karts isn't obvious to everyone. To be fair, some look similar to bumper cars.
On the other hand, if you don't know what you're about to drive, you probably shouldn't drive it in the first place.
Edit: I wouldn't ram a wall in a bumper car going 30 either.
Got run down by a kid and he said it was fun! Coworkers had to drag me away because I was going to explode. Thankfully his father gave him a nice lecture. Or maybe told him to aim for the knees next time I’m not sure.
It’s weird how real life doesn’t work like video games. I swear, if there was an event call “guess how far you can fall without getting injured,” most people would fucking die.
aw fuck, you’ve got any stories in mind?
i got a few. there was that one shift i had off where some dude shot up heroin under the underpass. all staff was held til midnight filing police reports.
another time i was to teaching a kid how to use the gas and brake. i was sitting on the side of the kart guiding her. she floored it and the momentum made me panic. my dumbass gripped the bumper and was dragged a few meters. the only thing that was hurt was my ego after my manager (the physical, emotional and mental embodiment of mr.krabs) cussed me out in front of a crowd.
there was another time four douchebags came in and basically were bumping people off the track. all my supervisors tried jumping in to stop em but couldn’t do anything cus these mofos were willing to run over anyone. one of my supervisors actually jumped over one of the incoming karts which was mega gnarly
Damn I've never had anyone doing heroin on site but we've had a few people come in drunk and stoned. The teaching kids to use pedals was always a risk and after one occasion where I had to hop over a barrier to avoid someone I never stood directly in front of them
Once two customers got in a fist fight on track in the middle of a session, and then they threatened to wait outside for the managers shift to end so they could 'settle things'. This was at 2pm. His shift finished at 11pm.
I have so many memories of that place, was equal parts stressful, frustrating and fun
Have an upvote. This is normal monday stuff.
I believe it. I love kart racing and went to a bachelor party where I only knew the groom. We were going pretty fast and the other guys t-boned and rear ended me every chance they had. We were lucky we didn't get kicked out or wreck like this.
There's liability forms and probably insane amounts of insurance just to deal with idiots that fuck around and cause injury, right?
Feels like all it'd take is one fool being wreckless to ruin an entire business and fun for every other decent customer.
Liability forms yes, every time someone doesn’t finish a session we had to fill an incident report form. As for insurance that was well above my pay grade
Me too, but wow that airtime is insane... Unbelievable
Thought dude was about to get squished
They’re very lucky they didn’t. It would just be neck pain lol
It kind of looks like the head support did it’s job and the airborne cart slid off it.
Yea but it looks like that bar is only behind the driver. If the cart had fallen in a way that was in front of that bar, it would definitely have been a squish. Not really sure what else to do except a full roll cage to prevent it.
I am more surprised the design of the cars allows them to ride up over each other so easily. Their bumpers are really poorly designed for the track type.
This happens sometimes at K1 speed. It is a weight issue. Light riders around 110 pounds have this issue where when they T-bone another kart they get sent vertical.
It is a real issue and is more common than you would expect.
That is why I for safety reasons have chosen to weigh 240 lbs
Yeah Doc I’m fat for everyone’s safety this bacon is a sacrifice I’m making for all of you
Oh yeah, dude is lucky for sure.
I’ve ridden in plenty of bumper cars and never seen them ride up like that so not sure what the issue was here.
These are carts not bumper cars. Carts have a much larger engine bumper cars are also usually powered by an electric motor and a wire attached to the ceiling.
tHe KaRtS lOoKeD nIcEr BefOrE tHeY aDdEd ThE HaLo
I never expected the halo to be so controversial
It was almost like when NASCAR tried to add the neck thingy
HANS is what you're thinking of.
Grosjean hated it when it was introduced. Then it saved his life. Now I watch old races and the cars look ridiculous without it.
I am a bit older, so I still think they look weird with them. I prefer watching vintage F1 races anyway, it just doesn't have the same soul anymore. 70s-90s was a completely different sport than now.
I'm a bit older as well and it just looks silly with their heads bobbing around there completely open. The older cars undoubtedly sound better, at least.
Yeah there is an actual concern for driver safety now. The cars were cooler back then like in group B but there is a reason why both are now relics of the past
/r/formula1 is leaking
sir. we take safety v seriously in /r/formula1
obi wan voice
/r/formuladank is the sub you’re looking for
i just got into F1 this year and i thought the bar around the car looked sick, then i got told it was called a halo and i was like yooo that’s the coolest thing ever lol
Yeah it’s a real heavy name especially when it does it’s job. I’m thankful for it or we would have lost Grosjean last year for sure
The cars did look better before the halo, but people staying alive is definitely more important.
Thought you meant those wee neck pillows you get for whiplash at first 😂
If you look closely, the dude actually just stiff armed the cart right up and over. Absolute unit.
The dude that went over looked like he got put in permanent splits.
I thought those were his arms doing a "what are you doing?" Type motion at first
That guy wasn't even twitching...
Shoes still on though, he's just gone superman is all.
Would be more than just neck pain methinks lol
[Blue shell incoming]
There's a little mini roll cage on those recreational karts but it still wouldn't be pretty
This is actually exactly how my dad broke his collarbone. It was not pleasant.
Score multiplier of 3, at least.
Stuck the landing too, he better get a drift in before that multiplier goes away
Is this a bird? Is this a plane? No, it's Bryan being a fucktard.
the feather from mariokart really exists
Isn't that only in battle mode now? Unfortunate.
Who said this wasn’t battle mode?
all life is battle mode, if you want it to be
"Outside in" when making race speed turns kiddos!
Get wide, hit the apex
That feeling when you just caress the apex with minimum braking; gosh!
Tucking in a knee and just kissing the checkers with the knee puck and gently lifting a tire coming out of the corner is almost as good as sex.
Fuck I miss my old bike and track days, and miss my old Texas Wold Speedway stomping grounds
Some times to turn left ya gotta steer right
Only on dirt, mud, or very wet asphalt.

How is this labeled as death/gore???
Edit: Wow, this is the most upvotes I’ve ever gotten!!! Thanks everybody
Been scrolling through every comment looking for this. Did the guy who went in the air die?
He looks like he flailed a bunch but I don’t see how that collision made him tense up like that. I’m genuinely perplexed.
Probably just a bit spooked since they didn’t weren’t expected to get catapulted into the air
He didn't tense up, he slid out of his seat. You're not belted in on karts, that's just his legs on either side on the kart doing the splits cause he's lying down in it when he lands.
Could be neck trauma? Don't see much head support. That's the best guess I got.
It is kind of unsettling how his legs don't un-tense after he stops moving
My question is how the heck did that first kid not get knocked out that kart literally hit him in the face at full speed, well turning speed I'd imagine, and you could see his neck flick to the side. I can't say much for that second impact because it looked to me as though he went to block it with his arm but that first hit looked serious. And the one that got pushed into the sky might have hit his head or suffered some form of whiplash or other brain trauma
There was a huge explosion right after the end of this video. Total bloodbath. Everyone died. I was there.
But you're alive... aren't you?
I was there.
holy fucking shit hes a ghost
We had a funeral for a bird
I now stopped looking at this point
This 4 pixels are the bloodiest 4 pixels I’ve ever seen.
I'll never unsee such a blood bath
Let alone see it
It wasn’t labor nsfw with that flair an hr ago, and doesn’t look like anyone died so no clue what OP decided to suddenly label it
Flair is often added by mods. So some mod decided to add that for some reason.
If mods gonna add that flair then they better pin a article or something for the aftermath of this post if someone really did die or something.
The last time I asked a mod to explain themselves (for locking comments on a post without explanation) I was banned from that sub.
Many Reddit mods are sad little tyrants with too much time on their hands.
Made you rewatch like 3 times tho haha
For them upvotes.
Trying to figure why dude took off running before the wreck? Another wreck elsewhere on the track?
The karts seemed to cut out so i think you might be right - just some didn't cut out quickly enough?
Weird, the personnel has a little remote thing that they carry on their hand at the one that I've been. They can shut down all karts right away if they see any of this going down.
This is an autobahn and they do have this, I assume the karts were stopped, but they stayed in neutral so they didn’t throw their drivers.
This is actually a K1 Speed. They have an engine cutoff but no way to stop the cars momentum remotely.
Looks like he seen they were coming around way too fast and went to hit some kind of emergency oh shit button?
They either have an emergency slow down button on them or there’s an emergency slow down button at certain intervals around the track. I believe there’s also a birds eye view room that has a bunch of controls in it.
You can see him looking off far to the left before he takes off. It's weird because he runs the opposite direction. I don't think his initial reaction had anything to do with the wreck we witnessed, he reacts way too prematurely
F1 2018 Belgium GP vibes
Holy shit that was over 2 years ago...
2011 Simoncelli vibe too. Ride in Peace Marco
I have Abu Dhabi 2010 first lap with Schumacher in my mind.
Where did the death/gore tag come from? There's no injury to be seen?
"Inside, 3 wide"
and Newman is in the catch fence as Denny crosses the line
Who’s the idiot here?
yeeeah, no one did anything blatantly stupid (edit: except that last dude still going full steam into a wreck), just inexperienced and there was enough of them that it caused a chain reaction.
The last kart, that sent the other kart in the air, I think they are the most stupid. They were going very fast and didn’t appear to have any intention of turning before hitting someone to slow down.
It was a common rookie mistake. They shouldn’t be condemned for it, but it was definitely stupid.
not just slowing down going into the turn, but slowing down because there's a wreck in front of them. That's the biggest error fuck up, I think.
Error? Bitch was playing bumper cars.
Meanwhile the whiplash from these can be bad. Don’t do this shit, you’ll hurt people.
The Gran Turismo method, No need for brakes, the slower car will slow me down
All the time you have to leavea the space.
Hate it or love it the underkarts on top
Go ahead and drift on me, I’m Karting’s MVP
And y’all signed this waiver so y’all don’t get to sue me.
Reminds me of the time I went to one of these places and my gf was basically stopping on every turn, so I tried to explain the concept of accelerating through the turn. The next turn she took she was going full speed, hit the wall hard and her kart almost took out the kid who was working there. Even though she was driving it was my fault though 🤷🏻
Why is this labeled death/gore?
The guy in the cart that flew goes limp but I doubt he died. Stuck or concussed at best.
boogity boogity boogity let's go racing
On a serious note, these things go fast. I used the local ones by me and they reach 40mph and on 2 parts of the track you can absolutely hit top speed.
People who aren't regulars look at them as toys / bumper cars and don't appreciate hitting someone at those speeds is not only dangerous but fucking hurts. While I didn't have a wreck nearly this bad, I did have a minor collision that was an instant awakening of, whoa I need to actually take this as seriously as if I was driving a regular car and avoid collisions at all costs.
Noobs cut people off and cut corners trying to pass completely oblivious to how dangerous their racing actually is.
Might be time for the Halo to come to indoor carting.
The feet of the flyer at the very end has me DYING. Somebody magnify it pleaseeeee
Hope he’s okay though
Yeah, he looks like he might have a concussion. His limbs just dangle there and remain.
Many people confuse bumper cars with go-karts
Man, that guy in the front got real lucky that cart cleared him.
There are indoor go kart tracks with bars in China. In Shanghai they had one with older and newer carts for more money. No safety briefing and communal helmets akin to batting cage helmets. The worst was 4 drunk Americans (myself and coworkers) and 6 Chinese locals with two who were very timid about speed and the rest were absolute demons. There was only two places on the track to pass. Complete shit show ensues, a carts wheel fell off from the "rubbing is racing" chant we had going, airborne carts, enhaling huge amounts of exhaust, getting yelled at in shanghainese (was not mandarin), and everyone was hammered... I would not want to see when things go really wrong. Hysterical fun though and they had lap timers.
I was recently there and got sooooo destroyed by one of the karts going full speed when I was stopped. I've been in 3 car accidents and I've never been hit that hard. I'm so glad they have those shitty helmets haha
What's with the death/gore tag? I don't even see any injuries.
All I can think of is that sound on tiktok with the quiet “weee”
How is nsfw??
Death/Gore tag? Suuuuuuure.....

Me: Who died? What gore?
Where the death/gore?
Why is this labeled death/gore??
SOUND EFFECTS. MUST NEED SOUND EFFECTS
Indoor karting never disappoints!
OUTSIDE, INSIDE, OUTSIDE, AAAAAAAAAAA FOLLOW THE RACING LINE
There's no death or gore. Shitty flair.
They just confused go carts and bumper cars.
Holy shit i actually saw something like this at my local Go-Karting place. Someone who was just starting tried to do a turn but just spun around and literally EVERYONE crashed into him. It must have been the scariest thing ever. I know because I was him.
