From the sidebar: This subreddit is meant to be a place free of excessive cynicism, negativity and bitterness. Healthy skepticism is fine under certain circumstances, but toxic attitudes are not welcome here.

In order for something to be uplifting there has to be a lower starting point. That's the entire point of lifting something up. If somebody picks someone up who's been knocked down you don't dismiss the act because gravity exists. Or the ground exists. Or because whatever knocked them down exists. The point is the pickup. The good deed to overcome the bad. Like Bob Ross says, "You need the dark in order to see the light."

If your sole purpose of being here is to complain about every thread being a boring dystopia because life isn't already perfect to start with, then you're not wanted or needed. Excessively cynical and negative comments fall under Rule 1 and will be removed. Celebrating or gloating over the death/suffering/misfortune of anyone, no matter what you think of them falls under Rule 1 and is not in the spirit of the subreddit. If all you want is to whine that everything is a boring dystopia then go hang on their subreddit. You will not be doing it here.

And one final note. Politics.

We have a mod team of differing political views from progressive left to centrist to conservative right. The one thing we all have in common is that we don't care a bit about yours. You are not singled out or had your posts and comments removed over political views. We remove your stuff because either A) it dosen't fit the sub, or B) you're being a dick. That's it. That's all. We moderate this subreddit to this subreddit's rules. And we have all removed comments and banned people we might actually personally agree with because they presented themselves in an asshole or trollish manner. You can believe or not. We don't particularly care and we won't be changing how we moderate the sub. As far as we're concerned since both lefties and righties are constantly yelling at us in modmail then we're doing exactly what we should be.

In closing, UpliftingNews is here to be a place to escape the constant sea of hateful angry shit that most of reddit is. If your contributions are nothing but hateful, angry, bitter, jaded, snide, accusatory, cynical, self righteous or negative then the problem is you, not the subreddit.
