I threw some meat in the slow cooker, made pico de gallo and coleslaw, did the dishes, applied to my local department store, and I'm still sad af. But at least I did something, right? :/

I use primarily roma because of the firmness, I cut them into six wedges then dice each wedge, and most non-serrated knives will work in my experience. My knives are mostly chipped and the sharpener I have does nothing, but I typically don't have much issue. :)

Both you and OP did so much good. Think of the days you haven’t done anything, and compare it to what you’ve done today. It’s wonderful, and appreciate every little thing you accomplish. Even though it’s just one little thing, which is far better than nothing.
I’m so proud of you. And OP. And everyone who made it through the day. Have a hug hugs

Any progress is progress. I took the kid to school, got a few things from the store, and cleaned up the kitchen. The tossed some chicken in the slow cooker. THEN I laid down and took a nap. Still feel like shit

That is amazing!! We are in full lock down here, so we kinda just bumbled through the day. Yet again. The kids reused the same cup they got given this morning and we ordered takeaway for dinner tonight. We are all doing what we can at the moment.

I'm my mind, it's all about setting reasonable goals and giving yourself credit for achieving them. I think about kaleidoscopes. The pieces are always the same, but depending on how you look at it, you see totally different pictures. Instead of criticising yourself for not being "like I used to be (or should be)," give yourself credit for you have achieved! As a teacher once said to me, "thou shalt not should on thyself!!"
Edit to say what I should have said first: kudos on the strong work!!

Pro tip, do your dishes as soon as possible. Waiting for something to heat up? Have a dish to clean? Clean it.
The sooner you do the dishes that can be done, the easier they are to do.

Shit I’ve been there... done so much, still felt like ass, gone back into depression land. The last time that happened, I flipped off depression land and kept doing stuff. That was a few years ago. Still have my down days, still occasionally visit depression land, but I don’t live there anymore. Keep going, you fucking GOT this!!!

I consider that a win! Yesterday I spent 6+ hours looking at the ceiling
Luckily today is much better for me. It feels like a roll of the dice every morning whether or not I'll have energy to do basic life things

Just keep cooking. Nothing worse than being depressed and eating like shit too. Plus it’s a nice hour or two to smoke some weed, have some glasses of wine, turn on some music, and just be in your own little world while you cook up something made just for you, how you like it.
4 points

I've been drinking in lieu of smoking weed since I'm still job hunting, but cooking really is cathartic. I appreciate the beautiful picture you painted, though. Light one up for me, if you would!

Sometimes it takes action before emotions will follow. If you act opposite to how you feel it can often regulate your emotions. In the context of depression, doing things you don’t want to do will over time make your emotions follow and you will eventually just realize that you’ve made it out. I promise it’s worth it. Good luck.

Why, despite it being a nearly universally loved film, does it feel like hook is vastly underappreciated, or at least has a cult status? I mean, this movie is nearly perfect. Perfect casting, perfect story, perfect writing, perfect direction. But I don't see nearly as much love for it online or in the real world as it deserves. We all need more hook in our lives.

I'm in the same boat, fam. We'll all get there eventually. Unemployment feels awful - like, I just finished uni, lost two jobs thanks to covid before I even started them, and it's been hard. I've never not worked, be it a decent job, or a little retail role to keep things ticking by, but now I haven't worked since...June? And it hurts. I fill out applications by the handful, and I've gotten close a few times. But never quite got it.
Best of luck. We all need it now. Keep your head up, keep your body in order, and find a small passion project/hobby to keep you distracted from it all, and you'll be back to the ol' grind soon enough!

It’s a win for the internet that we get to share our up moments as well as the low ones and know we aren’t alone. Love all the understanding and encouragement. Back in the day, I’m sure many suffered with depression and never knew there were so many others feeling exactly. The. Same. Way. Cheers to all of you that try when you can, and gear up to try again when you don’t feel it’s possible at the moment. Revel in the happy times, but never beat yourself up on the low days...keep telling yourself it will get better, and have trust and faith in your self to make it happen.

Little steps are still steps. Even if it doesn't feel like it some days you are moving forward. Focus on the little stuff that is going well. If you haven't before try out "mindfulness" where you just focus on the moment and being present and feeling all of the things that are happening to you in that moment. It sounds weird but it's basically just meditation.
